International Young Artists Residence ‘Try Your Profession’
This summer residence will take place in the Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre from July 19 to August 2, 2019.
It is dedicated to the centennial of Eduardas Balsys, the great Lithuanian composer. The joint work of all the residents will be the spectacular open-air concert “I am an old sailor” consisting of the popular songs and instrumental pieces by E. Balsys at the Klaipėda Clock and Watch museum on August 2, 2019.
All the residence activities will be done on the basis of side-by-side principle, i.e., the younger participants will have an opportunity to get experience from the senior professionals. For the project, the group of performers – soloists and instrumentalists – as well as the artistic team of assistant directors, show managers, scenographers, light and costume designers will be selected.
The spectacular open-air concert “I am an old sailor,“ which consists of various popular song and instrumental pieces by E. Balsys, is included into the programme of the festival „Musical August at the Seacoast“ and the repertoire of the Klaipėda State Music Theatre in the season of 2019/2020. It is intended to be performed in various cultural venues of Klaipėda and the region of Lithuanian seacoast.
There will be organized various excursions and meetings, the aim of which is to actualize the musical maritime heritage of E. Balsys.
Another important aim of the project is to develop the kind of artistic maritime mentality of the participants, i.e., to deepen the understanding of Lithuania also as a maritime state, not just in terms of geography, but also in terms of politics, economy, and culture. For that reason, the meetings and discussions with the professionals from various fields will be organized, paying special attention on various activities of maritime institutions and Klaipėda port, that have a major impact on the economic and cultural life not just of the citizens of Klaipėda but of entire country as well.
The undergraduate and graduate students as well as graduates from the conservatoires, academies and other schools of higher music education from the age from 18 to 28 years are expected to apply for the residence.
The performers — solo singers, choir singers (all voices, i.e. sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones, basses) as well as instrumentalists (pianists, percussionists, bass-guitar players, violinists, violists, cellists, flutists, oboists, clarinetists, bassoonists) are expected to send their CV’s, motivation letter, the free-form agreement to use personal data and pictures in the promotion of the project, as well as video recordings (youtube and/or Vimeo links) of their professional activities.
The applicants from other artistic specialities (assistant directors, stage managers, scenographers, light and costume designers, etc.) interested in participating in this residence should sent their CVs, motivation letters and free-form agreement to use personal data and pictures in the promotions of the project.

The accepted applicants will be informed within 10 working days.
The participants of the residence will be provided with free accommodation in Klaipėda.
During the residence, the master-classes, seminars, workshops and open-air flash-mobs will take place, as well as the meetings with the professionals of music theatre, specialists of actor excellence, and art managers will take place. The residents will have an opportunity not just to develop their musical skills, but also to get into the principles of personal management and the building of successful artistic career.
The residence begins on July 19, 2019.
The registrations of successful applicants will take place on July 19, 2019, at 10 AM at the Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
The leaders of the programme are conductor Egidijus Miknius and theatre director Rūta Bunikytė.
At the end of the entire programme the premier of the spectacular open-air concert “I am an old sailor,“ consisting of the popular songs and instrumental pieces by E. Balsys, will take place in the Klaipėda Clock and Watch Museum on August 2, 2019.
