Aurelijus Liškauskas

Dancer and choreographer Aurelijus Liškauskas (b. 1978) completed ballroom dance study programme at Klaipėda University (2001). Since 1997, he has worked as ballet dancer at the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre (KSMT) where he was appointed Chief Choreographer in 2011. As a dancer, he performed principal roles in KSMT’s dance productions, operettas and performances for children. He created choreography and performed principal roles in the dance performances In the Shadow of the Altars after the novel by Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas (2014) and Division after the novel by Arūnas Daugėla (2015). Liškauskas has contributed choreographies to the KSMT’s productions of operas, operettas, musical drama The Needle by Zigmars Liepiņš (also collaborated in the premiere production in Riga), musical performances for children, ballet company programmes for the international Dance Day “The Great Cancan, or Sweet Pleasures” (2011), “Starry Full-Moon” (2013), “My Don Quixote”, “Attention! Ballet” (2020, 2021). In 2008, as member of the creative team for children’s opera A Potato Tale, he was awarded the Golden Cross of the Stage Award.

As an independent choreographer, Liškauskas has collaborated with other musical theatres around Lithuania and appeared at festivals in Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Poland. He was an initiator and director of dance project “Ore” (2012–20). Several years ago he became interested in vertical dance, delighting Klaipėda residents with dances on walls in most unexpected places (The Talking Tower on the tower wall of the KSMT; Singing River of Vydūnas on the wall of the Western Baltic Shipbuilding Company), bringing joy to children while flying under the hall ceilings as Karlsson (project “Karlsson’s School” at the Klaipėda Concert Hall) or Gomez Adams (Festive event “Christmas Upside Down” at the Dolphinarium of the Lithuanian Sea Museum), and entertaining the lovers of opera with acrobatic tricks on the rope at the Klaipėda Shiplift in KSMT’s production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman.
