Carlos Santos Cabrera
Carlos Santos Cabrera is a Spanish architect and set designer, member of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts and the Spanish Association of Scenic Plastic Artists, with parallel training in music and acting, faculty member at the Canary Islands Drama School. He has designed sets for more than one hundred productions of operas, musicals, Spanish zarzuelas, dance and drama performances, collaborating with mostly Spanish stage directors, which have notably included Alfonso Romero, Curro Carreres, Carlo Antonio de Lucia, Raúl Vázquez, Renato Bonajuto, Daniele Piscopo, Israel Reyes, Quino Falero, and choreographer Daniel Abreu. In collaboration with South-African-born Austrian stage director and choreographer Leonard Prinsloo he has recently designed sets for the productions of Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice at Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2022) and Maury Yeston’s musical Titanic at Baden Theatre in Austria (2024).
He has been the resident set designer for the Canary Islands Zarzuela Festival since 2014. In television, he has designed sets for the New Year’s Eve special of Radio Televisión Canaria since 2017. Among other large-scale stage productions, his designs for the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival (2019, 2025) and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival (2022, 2023) may also be mentioned.
