Gaj Žmavc

Gaj Žmavc is a Slovenian dancer, choreographer, and composer. He received his classical ballet training in Maribor and later joined the Slovene National Theatre Maribor ballet company. During his time there, he toured extensively around the world and excelled in the company’s contemporary repertoire. He also collaborated closely with choreographer Edward Clug, both as a dancer and later as an international choreographic assistant and rehearsal director.

Žmavc discovered his passion for choreography at an early age and has since developed his unique choreographic style, which combines contemporary physicality and classical aesthetics with polished visual imagery. He also composes and produces original music soundtracks for most of his dance creations.

Žmavc currently works as a freelance choreographer internationally and has created new dance productions for various groups, such as Maribor Ballet, Youth Slovenian Ballet, Klaipėda Ballet, NRW Junior Ballet Dortmund, and Magdeburg Ballet. He has several exciting productions coming up. Since 2023, Žmavc has also been appointed as the Artistic Director of the Ballet Company at the Klaipėda State Music Theatre in Lithuania.
