International Male Choir Unia
The International Men’s Choir Unia (artistic director Pavel Gonca) was formed in 1990 in Minsk (Belarus). The group has been actively involved in various political, civic, and cultural initiatives, organising charity events as long as it has been able to do so, supporting repressed Belarusian cultural activists against violence and fraudulent elections. Members of the choir have been repeatedly detained and fined.
In early 2021, the choir and its leader had to leave Belarus due to political repression. Lithuania offered a safe asylum to the choir members. Currently, the choir comprises singers of Belarusian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Lithuanian origin.
