Jordi Roig
Born in Lleida (Catalonia, Spain), he started working in the field of plastic arts from an early age, under the strong influence of his father, an artist well known for his paintings of the ballet world. He studied scenic arts, puppetry and dance at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. In the early 1987, he finished his dance career to devote his time to costume and set design. In that same year he was invited by the association of dance artists and sculptors of Paris to exhibit his work at the IV Biennale. Further studies brought him together with renowned Italian set and costume designer Ezio Frigerio.
He created sets and costumes for the productions of many celebrated choreographers, including Rudolf Nureyew’s Swan Lake, Vladimir Malakhov’s La Bayadère, Un ballo in maschera, Cinderella, La Peri, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Heinz Spoerli’s Coppélia, Les Indes Galantes, Don Quixote and Marcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty among many others.
Over the years he has also collaborated with a number of internationally acclaimed directors and choreographers, including Renato Zanella, Manuel Legris, Victor Ullate, Renato Zanella, Terence Kohler and Edward Clug, in the productions created for the Stuttgarter ballet, Wiener Staatsoper, Wiener Philharmoniker New Year’s Concert, Semperoper Dresden, Les Ballets de Montecarlo, Introdans, Deutschen Oper Berlin, Zurich ballet, Staatsoper unter den linden, Bayerisches Staatsballett, Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Finnish National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, Teatre Lliure, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, etc.
