Leonard Charl Prinsloo

Leonard C. Prinsloo is a South African-born musical theatre director, choreographer, and university lecturer based in Vienna. He studied music and ballet, earning degrees from the University of Pretoria and the University of Witwatersrand. After performing as a ballet dancer with P.A.C.T Ballet Company, he transitioned into choreography and opera direction, gaining experience at the Cologne Opera House and the Opera House in Augsburg.

In 1993, Prinsloo joined the Vienna State Opera as an Assistant Director before becoming a freelance director and choreographer. Since then, he has worked extensively across Europe, South Africa, and Asia, directing operas, operettas, and musicals, including world premieres. He has collaborated with major opera houses and festivals, such as the Léhar Festival in Bad Ischl, the Daegu Festival in South Korea, and the Mörbisch Operetta Festival.

As a university lecturer, he has directed productions for MUK and MDW in Vienna. He also co-founded Plus Opera, an initiative supporting young singers. Currently, he is a resident director at the opera house in Baden, Austria, where he has staged numerous operettas and musicals. His recent successes include Maury Yeston’s musical Titanic in Baden, with upcoming productions of Johann Strauss’s II 1001 Nights  in Lithuania and Puccini’s Tosca in Austria.
