Two-Part Theatrical Revue

“Broadway Musical” – it is not just a genre or a globally recognized brand, not merely a location in Manhattan, New York, or London’s West End where musicals, musical comedies, and various shows are staged. It is also a synonym for dazzling acting mastery, impeccably trained vocals, movement, dance, physical expression – simply, a way of life. It represents the dream and aspiration of countless young actors, singers, and dancers: to one day see their name on Broadway theater posters and in entertainment headlines, to feel the spotlight and the admiring gaze of the audience, and, if fortune smiles, years later press their hands into a personalized tile on the Hollywood Walk of Fame…

“Every actor, singer, and dancer faces different challenges every day. But our main goal is to surpass ourselves. That is our dream of Broadway,” says the director of this theatrical musical revue, Rūta Bunikytė. In previous years, she directed the musicals “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Chicago” at the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre, as well as two theatrical concert programs. In this two-part revue, the director does not intend to tell a specific story – instead, the narrative emerges naturally from a sequence of excerpts from productions and concert programs staged by KVMT.

“The first part portrays a big city (perhaps Chicago) and the everyday life of its people: a café, a prison, a street, a variety theater, a bus stop, an alley. People dream of becoming bigger, more important, more glamorous. Then, an opportunity arises. The second part – a Broadway theater performance, where the main roles are played by those same street dwellers,” explains Rūta Bunikytė, outlining the imagined storyline.
