SONGS ON THE SANDY STEPS
Choral Music Concert
To mark the 150th Anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Culture Day
This concert will fill the foyer of the Klaipėda State Music Theatre with the colours of music and the beauty of voices. It is not just a concert – it is a moment when time momentarily stands still, and singing becomes a bridge between centuries, cultures, and hearts. The audience will be treated to a subtle and colorful program featuring works for choir by Händel, Verdi, Orff, Čiurlionis, Naujalis, Augustinas, Konstantinovas, and others. Each piece serves as a step along a path through the sands of time toward a deeper sense of self and music.
Performing is the choir of the Klaipėda State Music Theatre (chief choirmaster V. Konstantinovas), revealing a wide range of choral music – from powerful dramatic climaxes to the most delicate emotional nuances. The concert will be conducted by a remarkable figure – Kęstutis Jakeliūnas, a native of Klaipėda who took his first musical steps here. A graduate of the Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts in Klaipėda and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, he is now recognized as one of the brightest representatives of Lithuanian choral culture. Today, he is the artistic director of the Kaunas mixed choir “Kamertonas,” the founder of the vocal ensemble “Acusto,” and the chief conductor of the Lithuanian Song Festival. His artistic work combines deep musical knowledge and natural intuition. The music awakened by his baton doesn’t just sound – it speaks.
“Songs on the Sandy Steps” is a concert where time-honored compositions, an experienced master, and an ambitious choir meet – and most importantly, an audience ready to embark on an emotional and inspiring musical journey.
