Darius Kučinskas
Darius Kučinskas, PhD, completed piano studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and focused on the genesis of Čiurlionis’s piano music. He served as a scientific researcher for ten years at the National Čiurlionis Art Museum, was a music editor at the Jonas Petronis Music Edition, and has been a professor at Kaunas University of Technology since 2010. He has published a monograph, The Text of Čiurlionis Piano Music (aspect of genesis) (2004), based on his PhD dissertation, and The Complete Chronological Catalogue of Čiurlionis Music (2006; 2024 translated into English), and has edited and published over twenty music scores, including urtext and facsimile editions of Čiurlionis’s works.
Kučinskas has held internships at Stanford University (2014) and Jagiellonian University in Kraków (2015) and is the recipient of BAFF (2018) and Fulbright (2022) scholarships for research in the United States. Since 2015, he has been an accredited expert in European higher (music) education (MusiQuE). His research interests include music text editing and publishing practices, the musical activities of the Lithuanian diaspora in the USA, and the history of mechanical music recordings for the pianola.
