K. Jenkins Concert “Symphonic Adiemus”

View artists and dates

Traditionally, each year one of Klaipėda festival’s events is offered free of charge and dedicated to the Klaipėda city community. This year, the festival will invite residents to rediscover the courtyard space of KU SHMF, where Karl Jenkins’ popular work “Symphonic Adiemus” will be performed. The piece grew out of music originally composed for a Delta Airlines commercial and went on to captivate audiences worldwide with its distinctive ethnic colour and the composer’s invented language. Although it sounds reminiscent of Latin, the “words” were shaped by Jenkins according to the melodic line. Interestingly, the title of the work is close to the Latin adeamus, meaning “approach” or “coming together” – a value that contemporary society often finds lacking.

The title of the piece also inspired the choice of performers. For this special evening, KVMT will bring together singers from choirs across the Western Lithuania region. Joining the KVMT Mixed Choir are the KKS Choir “Aukuras”, the Klaipėda Cultural Centre Žvejų rūmai Chamber Choir “Cantare”, the Kretinga Cultural Centre Choir “Kristalė”, and the Palanga Chamber Choir. The united choir will perform the work together with the KVMT Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Chief Conductor Tomas Ambrozaitis.

KVMT dedicates this event to the Klaipėda community with the aim of encouraging creativity, self-expression, and social inclusion, as well as supporting the development of vibrant and active communities. By opening the authentic Klaipėda University courtyard to the audience, the theatre revitalises the city’s public spaces and transforms them into open cultural meeting places that foster community engagement and cultural dialogue.
