Roman Budko
Roman Budko (born December 2, 1999) is a Ukrainian ballet dancer who studied at the Serge Lifar Municipal Dance Academy in Kyiv. During his studies, he performed in productions at the National Opera of Ukraine, including The Nutcracker (as a corps de ballet dancer) and Winter’s Tale (as a principal soloist). He also danced solo roles in choreographic miniatures such as Seasons of Life, Six Dances (choreography by Jiří Kylián), and The Rich Man’s Frug (choreography by Bob Fosse) from the musical Sweet Charity.
In 2023, Roman portrayed the role of young Fedir Orlenko in the short film Dying Swan, directed by Stephen Fingleton.
Since November 2021, Roman has been a member of the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre ballet company. His roles at the theatre include:
- Manolis in Mikis Theodorakis’ ballet Zorba the Greek (choreography by Lorca Massine),
- Father Spirit and Povilas Glaudžius in In the Shadow of the Altars (choreography by Aurelijus Liškauskas),
- Eglė’s Father in Eduardas Balsys’ Eglė the Queen of Serpents (choreography by Martynas Rimeikis),
- Mephistopheles in Faust (choreography by Robert Bondara),
- Duet dancer in Don Quixote (Act III, choreography by Gaj Žmavc) and 8m68 (choreography by Robert Bondara).
In 2023, Roman made his choreographic debut at the annual KVMT ballet workshop “Attention! Ballet”, creating the miniature <<459>> for the performance Klaipėda: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Klaipėda’s unification with Lithuania.
