HOW BEAUTIFUL IS PANAMA
Klaipėda State Musical Theatre warmly invites everyone to the premiere of the children’s dance performance “HOW BEAUTIFUL IS PANAMA” on November 22–23, inspired by the beloved book by Janosch (Horst Eckert). Through the language of dance and music, a heartwarming story will unfold—one in which even the youngest audience members will recognize timeless values such as happiness, friendship, and the ability to find beauty and joy in every moment.
The creative team—composer Silvija Miliūnaitė, librettist Sondra Simana, choreographer Daria Verovka, music director and conductor Giedrius Vaznys, set designer Sigita Šimkūnaitė, costume designer Sandra Straukaitė, and lighting designer Andrius Stasiulis—is preparing a performance where art merges with meaning, and visual beauty becomes storytelling.
Daria Verovka, a member of the KVMT ballet company and the young choreographer behind the production, says that HOW BEAUTIFUL IS PANAMA will speak to children through dance about eternal values—friendship, happiness, the joy of discovery, and many other beautiful things. Librettist Sondra Simana places the story’s characters in an unexpected setting, inviting the audience to experience the well-known journey of Little Bear, Little Tiger, and Duck in a completely new way. Only those who attend will discover the surprises that await!
The new KVMT premiere also touches on sustainability—set designer Sigita Šimkūnaitė subtly incorporates plastic objects into the stage design, transforming them into streams, fish, flying elements, and other key details. In this way, the performance encourages reflection on responsible consumption and care for future generations. This magical fairy tale world is enriched by Silvija Miliūnaitė’s music, which, according to conductor Giedrius Vaznys, “seems to tell the story on its own.” The magic is further enhanced by Sandra Straukaitė’s costumes and Andrius Stasiulis’ lighting design.
Written in 1978, HOW BEAUTIFUL IS PANAMA is one of the most beloved children’s books in Germany and was awarded the German Youth Literature Prize. It has inspired an opera in Berlin and continues to be cherished by generations of theatre lovers.
Don’t miss the chance to dive into a bright, touching, and inspiring fairy tale world with the whole family—where Panama truly is very beautiful.
